01 Brief
A bookcase to fill a chimney alcove that is not square, with shelves deep enough for large books.
02 Timber
Tasmanian oak: pale, straight grain, and easy to scribe to a wall that is out of plumb.
03 Making

Stage 1
Measuring
The alcove measured in five places, top to bottom, to find where it leans.

Stage 2
Making
Sides and shelves cut over-size, housed together, then trimmed to the measured shape.

Stage 3
Fitting
Scribed to the walls on site and fixed to the studs.

04 Finished
The case is scribed to the alcove walls so there are no gaps. Shelves are fixed with housed joints and carry the weight of a full library.
